Privacy Policy

The short version

You paste a link; our server fetches that media and hands it to you. We don't make you sign up, we don't run ad/tracker networks, and we don't sell anything about you. We keep minimal analytics and short-lived server logs to keep the free service running and to stop abuse.

What we collect

Anonymous analytics. We use Google Analytics 4 with IP anonymization to see aggregate usage (page views, which downloaders are popular). It's coarse, anonymized traffic data — not tied to any account, because there are no accounts.

Server request logs. To keep a free public service online and prevent abuse, our server records each probe/download request: the link you submit, its host, your IP address, your browser's user-agent, and an approximate country (from Cloudflare). These logs rotate automatically and are kept only as long as needed for reliability and abuse-prevention. We don't sell them or use them for advertising.

The media itself. When you download, the file is fetched to our server's temporary storage just long enough to hand it to your browser, then auto-deleted (typically within ~30 minutes). We don't keep a library of what you download.

On your device

downloot stores a little bit in your browser's local storage — your light/dark preference, your recent-download list, and whether you've enabled adult sites. That stays on your device and is never sent to us. Clear your browser storage to remove it. Google Analytics may set its own cookies as part of measurement.

Third parties

We rely on a few external services: Google Analytics (anonymized measurement), Google Fonts (typefaces), Cloudflare (network/CDN in front of the site), and Buy Me a Coffee (only if you choose to tip — that's handled entirely on their site). When you download, the media is fetched from the source platform you linked (YouTube, Instagram, etc.), so their terms apply to that content.

What we don't do

No ad networks. No third-party trackers beyond the anonymized analytics above. No "PRO" tier harvesting your details. No selling or renting of any data.

Adult content

Adult sites are blocked by default behind an opt-in toggle. If you enable it, that choice is stored only in your browser. downloot is intended for adults; please don't use it for anything illegal.

Your content & responsibility

downloot is a tool for personal use. Only download content you have the right to, and respect the terms of the platforms and the rights of creators.
