Why we made it

Every other "free" downloader we tried was a minefield — pop-up ads, fake download buttons, sketchy redirects, and the good stuff (HD, no watermark, batch) locked behind a “PRO” subscription. Downloading a clip you already have the right to shouldn't feel like dodging traffic.

So we built the opposite: paste a link, pick a format, get the file. No ads. No upsell. No account. downloot wraps the brilliant open-source yt-dlp and ffmpeg in a clean, fast interface and works across 1800+ sites — YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, X, Reddit and the rest.

Meet Robby

Robby is our 8-bit raccoon — a nocturnal little bandit who's very good at finding things that aren't nailed down. Raccoons are clever, resourceful scavengers, which felt about right for a tool that sniffs out the real media file behind a page. He's the mask on the loot, the paws on the trash-can lid.

The game (yes, there's a game)

Big downloads take a moment, and staring at a progress bar is boring. So Robby has his own game — Robby Run, a little endless runner across a pixel city. Press space (or tap an empty area of the page) and he's off: double-jumping over trash cans, bouncing off bins, dodging pest-control officers and grabbing loot, all while your file downloads in the background. We'd rather hand you a few seconds of delight than a banner ad.

Delight over ads

We don't run ads, we don't sell a PRO plan, and we don't sell your data. That's a deliberate choice — ads are how downloaders get gross. The flip side is that bandwidth and servers cost real money, so if downloot saved you a download (or a headache), the nicest way to keep it alive is to buy us a coffee ☕.
